Gathering Data to Develop Inclusive Engagement Strategies

Thursday March 9, 2023

10:00 A.M. - 11:30 P.M.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Inclusive philanthropy is authentically welcoming and engaging all individuals to participate in philanthropy and bringing new audiences and populations to volunteer and donor pipelines. This session will explore how to create “better practices” as it relates to the collection, storage, and use of identity data. We'll discuss the steps of creating and launching an identity collection effort, including security and database considerations, as well as constituent communications. We'll also explore how to analyze the data you've collected to pinpoint engagement gaps to inform how to refine and adjust your fundraising efforts to be more inclusive.

FACILITATOR:

Milagro “Misa” Lobato is a Senior Consultant at The Inclusion Firm and the Director of Prospect Management and Analytics at the Rhode Island School of Design. She is a past president of Apra, and served on the Apra board from 2016 through 2022, holding leadership roles in governance, conference planning, membership, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. In her leadership of Apra, Misa helped found a diversity, equity, and inclusion committee, establish DEI goals in Apra’s strategic plan, launch a member identity data collection effort, draft and implement a DEI plan, and integrate DEI-focused practices throughout the organization. In her writing and speaking on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in non-profit organizations, Misa promotes a vision of philanthropy that actively participates in the creation of a more just and inclusive world. Previously, Misa was the Assistant Vice President of Advancement Strategy and Annual Giving at the University of Colorado, where she worked in Advancement for over 13 years.
