    The effects of the economic downturn have been felt even in the area of nonprofit lobbying. Total spending on lobbying by nonprofits dropped 3.3 percent from 2007 to 2011, with 35 organizations increasing their lobbying spending and 38 decreasing their lobbying spending.

    National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) announced today the launch of a new affiliate, NPT Charitable Asset Trust (NPT CAT), which shares NPT's mission to increase philanthropy in society. NPT CAT, a public charity in the trust form, accepts personal assets as charitable donations.
