Have you been tasked with researching UK donor prospects but are not sure where to start? Are you interested in finding out of there are people in the UK who might make good donors to your cause? While prospect research techniques are universal, the information available in the UK may not be what you are used to having access to on your US prospects. Data protection regulations also impact what you can do and how you do it. In this discussion, we will explore themes such as:
PRESENTER:
Kerry Rock has over 30 years’ experience in research, policy and management. She joined Prospecting for Gold in 2012 and currently leads on prospect research consultancy and data protection work. She also runs their training programme, sharing her expertise in webinars and seminars.
Kerry has written hundreds of user-friendly reports and presented to wide-ranging audiences at national and international conferences, seminars and board meetings.
Kerry volunteers both within the charity sector and in her local community. She is a trustee of Cure Parkinson’s (Chairing the Board’s Fundraising & Marketing sub-Committee) and the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust and sits on the Chartered Institute for Fundraising’s Consultants Special Interest Group committee. She is a member of the Market Research Society and president of the UK branch of the University of Melbourne’s Alumni Association. Closer to home, Kerry is a volunteer citizen scientist, helping to protect her local river, the Chess.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Calling on all those who have an interest in learning more about prospect development! Come join us for this FREE webinar where we will provide a basic introduction to the field meant to spark interest, share some simple research techniques, and offer advice on how to begin a career in prospect development. Attendees will come away with:
Anyone who conducts research as part of their current role and wants to learn more should attend this program. If you manage or interact with interns, student workers, and volunteers, please encourage them to attend!
PRESENTERS:
Jen Clifford is an Interim Assistant Director of Research at Harvard University. She has worked in development since 2015 holding positions at the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center and the Peabody Essex Museum. Jen received her BA in art history from the University of Maryland and professional certificate in museum studies from Tufts University. She is currently a member of the NEDRA’s Advocacy and Professional Development Committee.
Emily Loffredo is a collaborative development professional with over 20 years of nonprofit experience in both frontline fundraising and advancement operations. She has worked for small, local nonprofits as well as large, national organizations including the National Audubon Society and the Smithsonian Institution. Throughout her career, she has held varied responsibilities, including research and prospect management, annual giving, foundation and corporate relations, gift processing, event planning, membership management, and volunteer coordination. Her varied experience gives her a strong understanding of how all aspects of a development office work together effectively and how she can best support colleagues and donors. Emily is currently Foundation, Corporation, and Research Manager at Concord Hospital Trust, the fundraising arm for Concord Hospital Health System in central New Hampshire. She provides prospect research, management, and strategy for the development team, having designed a prospect management program from the ground up, and manages grants activities, including research, cultivation, proposal writing, submission, and stewardship.

Research Basics Bootcamp

Research Basics Bootcamp is a virtual program of instruction in the essentials of prospect research. This training is a must for those new to research or those who have had research added to their roles. No experience in the field is necessary to begin learning how to apply professional research methodologies. The program will cover such subjects as:
FACULTY:
Lisa Foster is the Director of Prospect Development at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. She is a Phillips Academy alumna and two of her four children are also alumni of the school. Lisa is a former member of the Board of Directors of NEDRA. Over the course of her term, she served as the Treasurer of the Board of Directors, Conference Co-Chair for two NEDRA Conferences, Secretary of the Board, and Co-Chair of various committees, including Scholarship and Programming. Lisa continues to serve on the NEDRA Programming and Nominating Committees and was the Co-Chair of the 2022 CASE Prospect Development Conference . Lisa served as a Director of the Haverhill Foundation for Excellence in Education for over twenty years and has also served as a director of the Haverhill Discovery Club Program.
Michele Borucki began her career in development in 2012 as a Development Analyst with the University of California, Berkeley Corporate and Foundation Relations team. She went on to serve as a Prospect Analyst at the University of California, Davis and then as a Senior Prospect Analyst at the George Washington
Michele received her B.A. in creative writing from Florida State University and studied higher education leadership at California State University, Sacramento.
Tara McMullen-King is Director of Research & Consulting at The Helen Brown Group, where she works with a team of consultants to provide prospect research, prospect management consulting, fundraising analytics, training, and due diligence research for nonprofit organizations across the country. She began her career in development in the early 2000s at Simmons College, where she ultimately went on to serve as Assistant Director of Prospect Research. Since that time, Tara has also worked as a Senior Research Analyst at MIT, as Associate Director of Prospect Management & Research at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and as Director of Development Research at Combined Jewish Philanthropies. She served on NEDRA’s board of directors from 2010-2016, and has served as a member of the Research Basics Bootcamp faculty since 2020. Tara has also been involved as a volunteer with Apra, previously serving stints on the Membership Committee, Chapters Committee, and Bylaws Task Force. In addition to her work in prospect development, she is also a professional wedding officiant in Salem, Massachusetts, and sits on the board of The Bridge at 211, a nonprofit organization working to transform a former church into a hub for arts and culture to serve the great Salem community.
